A client just alerted me to some weird stuff going on with Google's paid search ads on their site.
If you search for something and then search for something else, you may notice that while the organic results are on the topic you are looking for, some or all of the paid ads may be about the previous topic. And later searches may be about a mix of topics that are quite different from what you current search is about.
While this "following" behavior may seem like a good idea, I think it will discourage people from bothering to look at the very top and side, where the now "irrelevant" paid ads are being displayed. My personal feeling is that this is just another sign of decay and decline at Google. The signs I see are small, but growing in number and always a deviation from common sense, quality control, and customer service.
